general purpose batteries > zinc carbon vs zinc cloride

Zinc Carbon & Zinc Chloride
ZInc carbon represents the oldest technology in the primary dry battery system "Zinc carbon section".
The cathode is a mixture of carbon conductor and electrolyte.

The zinc can serves as the anode and forms the metal shell of the battery. The electrolyte is a
complex mixture of ammonium chloride & manganese.

Zinc carbon chemistry is used in all inexpensive AA, C, and D dry cell batteries.

As the name suggests, the electrolyte in zinc chloride cells is mostly zinc chloride. Zinc Chloride batteries provide greater capacity that Zinc Carbon.
